How to describe myself? Physically I'm two meters tall and mass around 135 kilos. I'm of Norwegian stock (my father's father was born there). I was born in Los Angeles and have lived in California all my life. I attended UCLA from 1971-1977 earning a B.A. in Chinese and an M.L.S. in International Librarianship. I started programming computers back when LBJ was in the White House, and I continue programming them to this day. I live in Silicon Valley, having moved here to work for Xerox from 1985-1988, and then Apple from 1988-2001. I currently work for Monotype Imaging, a company that creates fonts (we're on the web at fonts.com). They pay me to write font tools in Python...bliss!
I'm co-inventor of Unicode, of TrueType and of GX Line Layout. I have fourteen patents in various aspects of typography. Languages fascinate me, as do the sciences and arts. I guess I've lived in the world of the mind all my life, but have been a bit neglectful of the world of the body. The past few years I've been making an effort to meet gay folks and have succeeded in meeting some very interesting people!
